Dear Early Child Education Center Families,

The safety of our students, staff, and community is our top priority at Salt River Schools. We want to let you know that today we became aware of an individual at the Early Childhood Education Center with a test-confirmed case of COVID-19. They were last at the ECEC on May 5 and have been isolating at home per federal and Community health guidelines. Due to federal privacy laws, we are unable to share any personal identifying information about who has tested positive.

How will this be addressed?
We have notified the Community Epidemiologist and health department; we have also taken appropriate measures to ensure any areas potentially exposed by this individual are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. Students and staff who have been in close contact with this individual will be contacted about quarantine and other safety measures.

Method of Control
In order to stay healthy, practicing good hygiene is paramount, including following these guidelines:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water.
  • Cover your mouth/nose when you cough or sneeze.
  • Stay home from school/work when you are sick.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wear face masks when in public and maintain social distancing when possible.
  • Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.

Will we be doing any contact tracing?
After a positive case is reported, a process takes place with the Community Epidemiologist and health department where the individual who tested positive confirms anyone they have been in close contact with who may have been exposed. Through the process, the county notifies those individuals via phone call and provides direction for next steps and safety precautions. The district will also reach out to close contacts as an added step for precautionary measures.

If you do not receive a follow-up call from the county or the school district, then you were not in close contact with the individual who was diagnosed (within six feet for 15 minutes or more) and no additional action is needed. We encourage everyone to follow SRPMIC health guidelines and monitor your family’s health.

What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is an illness caused by a virus that can spread from person to person. It can cause no symptoms at all for some individuals, whereas others could experience a mild illness, or it could also cause severe symptoms. Symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure.

Symptoms
People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported. Some symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.

Mode of Transmission
The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.

  • Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about six feet).
  • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks.
  • These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
  • COVID-19 may be spread by people who are not showing symptoms.
  • The virus may be spread in other ways.
  • It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes.

Next Steps
We recommend that you and your family monitor your health over the next 14 days and if you experience symptoms of COVID-19, to seek medical care and/or self-isolate at home. Please inform school leaders if your student tests positive for COVID-19.

At Salt River Schools, we are confident we have implemented safety protocols that significantly reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread. Click here to view our Health & Safety Plan. Additional information is available on the Centers for Disease Control website at www.cdc.gov.
