The Birth to Five Helpline is a free service open to all Arizona families with young children looking for the latest child development information from experts in the field. Professionals may also take advantage of this service.

Call the Helpline to speak with one of our bilingual (English/Spanish) early childhood specialists, on duty Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can also leave a voicemail, complete our online contact form (below), or text the Helpline 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Introduced in 2005, the Birth to Five Helpline combines sensitive, supportive listening with sound information from professionals who have expertise in early childhood development and parenting/caregiving.

The Birth to Five Helpline specialists are speaking with parents, caregivers, and professionals about supporting children around the challenges presented by COVID-19 and assisting them with a range of needs during this especially difficult time. You may also submit questions online.

Due to the number of calls being handled, you may need to leave a voicemail. Please be sure to leave your name AND phone number on that message and a Helpline specialist will respond as soon as possible.

More about the Birth to Five Helpline:

  • The Birth to Five Helpline is a free service that you can call, text or email with any
    questions you have about your child.
  • Helpline staff are experts on young children and parenting and work with you one-on-one to talk about what you and your family are going through.
  • You can call about things like sleep, fussiness/colic, challenging behaviors, feeding/nutrition, developmental milestones, parenting questions, and they can refer you to other resources and services if you need them.

WHO is the Helpline?
The phones are answered by early childhoo professionals highly trained in areas such as: early intervention/disabilities, infant and early childhood mental health, early care and education, parenting, and child development.

HOW does the Helpline work?
Helpline specialists take the time needed to explore the parent’s concerns, provide developmental information about the specific concern and discuss best strategies to match the family’s situation, culture, and parenting style to resolve the issue.

Pediatric Consultant
A pediatrician consults as part of the Helpline team and meets with staff twice/monthly.

Familiarity with Systems
Helpline specialists have the experience and knowledge on how to navigate the complex
systems of AzEIP, DDD, AHCCCS, Behavioral Health, WIC and more.

Professional Guidelines
Helpline specialists align themselves with appropriate research and best practices within the early childhood field from organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics, ZERO TO THREE, Harvard’s Center for the Developing Child, Yale’s Edward Zigler Center in Child Development and Social Policy, and others on issues such as safe sleep, feeding and breastfeeding.
